University is still an option

31 Jan 2020

IF you’re still considering what you’ll be doing in 2020, university study is an option. Some courses are still open and available for Semester 1.

Applications through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for study in first semester close at midnight on Friday 7 February 2020 and preferences for the final offer round need to be finalised by Sunday 1 March.

So far, UAC has made 95,000 offers to domestic undergraduate applicants.

UAC General Manager of Marketing and Engagement, Kim Paino, said the message for anyone who has missed out on an offer is not to be disheartened.

‘Some courses have vacancies for Semester 1 so there’s still a chance,’ Ms Paino said. ‘Check UAC’s website for a list of course vacancies but contact the university to confirm if places are still available.’

Make sure you are eligible for any new courses you list in your preferences. Some courses have special entry requirements, course prerequisites and/or early application closing dates and it may be too late to complete these requirements.

Ms Paino encourages applicants who have missed out on an offer to their preferred course to consider alternative entry. ‘Most institutions have pathway programs that lead into a Bachelor degree, or you could start with a TAFE qualification or a course at a private college.’

For more information on alternative entry check out the institution pages of the UAC website.
