University is still an option, but time is running out
IF you’re still considering what you’ll be doing in 2023, university study is an option. Some courses are still open and available for semester 1.
Applications through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) for study in first semester close at midnight on Friday 3 February and preferences for the final offer round in early March need to be finalised by 11.59pm on Thursday 23 February.
So far, UAC has made 95,189 offers to domestic undergraduate applicants.
UAC General Manager of Marketing and Engagement, Kim Paino, said the message for anyone who has missed out on an offer so far is not to be disheartened.
‘Some courses have vacancies for semester 1 so there’s still a chance,’ Ms Paino said. ‘Contact the university to confirm that places are still available and that your application will be competitive.’
Make sure you are eligible for any courses you list in your preferences. Some courses have special entry requirements, course prerequisites and/or early application closing dates and it may be too late to complete these requirements.
Ms Paino encourages applicants who have missed out on an offer to their preferred course to consider other course options. ‘Most institutions have pathway programs that lead into a bachelor degree, or you could start with a TAFE qualification or a course at a private college.’
For more information on pathway options, check out the institution pages of the UAC website.
