Equity schemes help students overcome barriers to higher education
FINANCIAL hardship, illness, family crisis, or living in a remote area shouldn't stand between students and their university aspirations. The Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) offers several equity schemes to overcome barriers to higher education for students facing educational disadvantage.
The Educational Access Scheme (EAS) provides special consideration for students who have experienced long-term disadvantage such as serious illness, family disruption, English language difficulties or refugee status.
The Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) enables schools to nominate Year 12 students for early university offers based on criteria beyond the ATAR, recognising academic progress, leadership qualities and other achievements.
Equity Scholarships deliver vital financial support to talented students from low socio-economic backgrounds, helping cover costs like textbooks, accommodation and living expenses.
Kim Paino, Chief Strategy and Engagement Officer, says, ‘UAC is committed to widening participation in higher education, so students can achieve their potential regardless of the educational disadvantages or personal hardships they may have experienced.’
