ATARs released today

18 Dec 2024

2024 NSW HSC students will find out their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) today.

Students can view their ATAR from 9am. They’ll receive an email with a link to the ATAR login. If they’re a UAC applicant they’ll also receive the link via SMS, or they can also access their ATAR directly on UAC’s website. They'll need their NESA student number and UAC PIN to log in.

Students will also be able to access and store their ATAR in the free digital wallet, CredFolio.

Facts about the 2024 ATAR

  • 57,194 students were eligible for an ATAR. This is 1,671 more than in 2023.
  • 51 students received the top ATAR of 99.95. Of these students, 9 were female and 42 were male.
  • Students who received the top ATAR came from a mix of government and non-government schools and studied a wide range of courses. The list of courses studied by candidates awarded an ATAR of 99.95 contained 34 different courses out of the 116 courses offered.
  • 17.8 per cent of students received an ATAR of 90.00 or above, 35.5 per cent received an ATAR of at least 80.00 and 52.6 per cent received an ATAR of at least 70.00.
  • The median ATAR this year was 71.55, slightly higher than in 2023. To achieve a middle ATAR, students generally need to be in the middle of their courses and receive HSC marks between 70 and 80. However, because of the large percentage of students with marks between 70 and 80, the ATARs of students with HSC marks around 80 will often be very different from the ATARs of students with HSC marks around 70.
  • The median ATAR for females was 72.40, whereas the median ATAR for males was 70.40.

If HSC students have specific questions about the calculation of their ATAR, they can call UAC’s ATAR Enquiry Centre on (02) 9119 5012 from 8.30am on 18 December. The centre will also be open on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 December.

Kim Paino, Interim Managing Director said, ‘Congratulations to all students receiving their HSC results and ATARs today – this marks a major milestone as you complete your high school journey. As you plan for the future, remember that there are many pathways to university, regardless of your ATAR. If you need guidance or support, UAC is here to help you explore your options and take the next step with confidence.’
