Admission criteria and entry schemes
Admission criteria are the minimum qualifications you need before you can be selected for admission to a course of study.
ICMS has a holistic approach to assessing your application, including an application interview, your individual Year 12 subject results and, for High Academic Places, your ATAR.
Undergraduate applicants
Australian Year 12 students
Applicants for bachelor degrees must complete the NSW HSC (or equivalent) with a minimum Band 2 in English Standard or English EAL/D and a Band 2 in any one of the following courses: Mathematics Standard 2, Business Studies, Economics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Legal Studies, Financial Services, Business Services.
Applicants for diploma courses must complete the NSW HSC (or equivalent) with Band 2 or above in any 2 units of English. Applicants with documented work experience and/or completion of a Certificate IV qualification (or equivalent) will be considered for entry.
ICMS does not use ATAR selection ranks for admissions.
Selection rank adjustments
Equity adjustments
ICMS has an Educational Access Scheme (EAS) for applicants who have experienced long-term educational disadvantage due to circumstances beyond their control or choosing, which has seriously affected their educational performance. A long-term educational disadvantage should normally be experienced for a period of at least six months. ICMS EAS applications are made centrally through UAC.
How Educational Access Schemes work
ICMS High Academic Place (HAP) offers
ICMS offer a limited number of High Academic Places (HAPs) each February intake to students who demonstrate strong academic ability, as evidenced by ATAR ranking. HAP students receive a tuition fee subsidy for the duration of their course. The subsidy amount varies each intake depending on the number and quality of applicants.
ICMS offers
Qualified students who are not offered a HAP are eligible for a place to study at ICMS. FEE-HELP is available to cover the full cost of your tuition. In addition to your application interview, ICMS will consider achievement in your Year 12 subjects or equivalent.
All students are considered for entry based on:
- achievement in your Year 12 subjects
- optional application interview may strengthen your application.
Other admission options
Schools Recommendation Scheme
ICMS participates in the Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS), which is processed centrally through UAC. SRS gives current Year 12 students an opportunity to receive early offers of admission and be assessed on a wide range of selection criteria, including school recommendations and senior secondary studies.
How the Schools Recommendation Scheme works

International Sport College Australia Pathway (ISCA)
For students who would like to maintain their sports training whilst working towards a qualification, an ISCA diploma presents students with an opportunity to achieve sporting and academic success, and seek further pathways into higher education should they wish. An ISCA diploma provides subject credits needed for articulation to the second year of an equivalent bachelor degree at ICMS.
To find out more, visit the ISCA website.
Aspire Institute diploma pathways
Aspire Institute diploma programs can be completed as an eight-month stand-alone qualification or as a pathway to the second year of a bachelor degree at University or College should students wish to continue their tertiary studies.
Subjects completed in a diploma program may count towards a bachelor degree at ICMS or at one of the other Universities with which there is an agreement, including: University of Technology Sydney(UTS), Macquarie University (MQU), Western Sydney University (WSU), and University of Wollongong (UOW) or the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS).

Criteria that may apply in addition to the ATAR
Application interview
Students may be invited to attend an interview. Email ICMS for further information or to enquire about an alternative interview date.
Application interviews may be conducted as part of a personal campus tour. This is a great way for students and their parents to ask questions and learn about courses and campus facilities.
If you have undertaken tertiary studies you will be considered for selection based on your overall academic record, both secondary and tertiary. Applicants who have completed tertiary studies but who have not gained a Year 12 qualification will be considered.
Completed enabling courses
Students can be considered on the basis of performance at an interview plus completion of the pathway programs at Aspire Institute.
Students can be considered on the basis of performance at an interview plus completion of a recognised Certificate IV qualification or equivalent.
Applicants, who are over 18 years of age, may be eligible for admission based on specific work and life experience. Undergraduate applicants will need to present evidence of at least 2 years of full-time paid work experience. This evidence must be well documented and include the following:
- a CV/resume
- at least two reference letters or statements of service
- job descriptions; and
- a completed Statement of Purpose eForm
Applicants may also wish to provide evidence of formal, informal or non-formal study, completed or partially completed, which demonstrates a reasonable prospect of success in the course applied for.
However, it is not recommended that applicants rely solely on work experience; they should consider supplementing it with the Skills for Tertiary Admission Test (STAT).
Enabling course options
If you do not meet our bachelor degree admission criteria you may be eligible to receive an offer for a pathway program delivered through Aspire Institute.

With the trimester system, you will be able to complete both your pathway and bachelor degree within three years. As a pathway student, you will have access to all ICMS on-campus facilities and support services.
There are commonly accepted overseas secondary qualifications that ICMS may take into consideration. Check your qualification. Contact ICMS to discuss eligibility for admission before submitting an application to UAC.
