Admission criteria

ATAR/OP comparison table

Since the late 1990s, all Australian states and territories (except Queensland) have used a common measure to rank Year 12 students for university admission. In 2010 the Australasian Conference of Tertiary Admission Centres, of which UAC is a member, agreed that a common name for this measure would be adopted: the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).

From 2020, Queensland Year 12 students will also be ranked using the ATAR.

Until 2019, however, Queensland ranked Year 12 students using the Overall Position (OP) measure.

The table below shows how the ATAR equated to Queensland OPs in 2018. This table should only be used as a guide to how ATARs and OPs equated; the comparisons were reconfigured each year.
