Understanding the OP to ATAR Conversion
How to convert OP to ATAR
The OP to ATAR comparison table provides a guide to how Queensland Overall Position (OP) scores were compared with Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks (ATARs) in 2018. It should be used for reference only, as the OP system was replaced by the ATAR system in 2020 and conversion figures were recalculated each year.
Since the late 1990s, all Australian states and territories (except Queensland) have used a common measure to rank Year 12 students for university admission. In 2010 the Australasian Conference of Tertiary Admission Centres, of which UAC is a member, agreed that a common name for this measure would be adopted: the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
From 2020, Queensland Year 12 students have also been ranked using the ATAR.
Until 2019, however, Queensland ranked Year 12 students using the Overall Position (OP) measure.
To demonstrate how the OP converts to an ATAR, the table below shows how the ATAR equated to Queensland OPs in 2018. This table should only be used as a guide to how ATARs and OPs equated; the comparisons were reconfigured each year.
