What Year 12s do in their downtime

27 Jun 2024

SLEEPING, socialising, sport and music – these are the things that occupy Year 12 students when they’re not studying according to a report by the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

UAC asked nearly 17,000 students about their lives as they transition from school.

Not surprisingly, their favourite social activity is going out with friends (70%), followed by spending time with family (50%) and playing sport (45%). Listening to music is the most popular individual activity (70%), with exercising coming in second (51%) and sleeping coming in third (46%).

And if you want to contact them, don’t call! The survey showed only 4 per cent of students want to be contacted by phone.

Netflix retains its dominance as the preferred streaming service with 82 per cent of students naming it as their favourite platform, while Amazon’s Prime Video has had the greatest increase in popularity, jumping seven points to 32 per cent this year.
