Equity Scholarships surge
APPLICATIONS for Equity Scholarships through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) have surged by more than 35 per cent with more than 4,500 received so far this year.
Equity Scholarships support students from low socio-economic backgrounds who face educational challenges including living in a regional or remote area, having carer responsibilities, or managing a long-term medical condition.
Interim Managing Director Kim Paino said, ‘With rising cost-of-living pressures, it’s more important than ever for students who are doing it tough financially to access the kinds of support that will help them pursue and remain in university study.’
There are two categories of scholarships – the Indigenous Student Success Program (funded by the Australian Government) and Institution Equity Scholarships (funded by universities).
Scholarships offer a range of support options including cash, bursaries and accommodation. So far, 450 students have received an Equity Scholarship, with the largest offer rounds still to come.
Applying for an Equity Scholarships is free, however there is a fee to apply for undergraduate admission through UAC.
Year 12 students are encouraged to apply for Equity Scholarships before Tuesday 10 December to receive a scholarship offer in time for December Round 2 – the main offer round for Year 12 students. They can then have all their opportunities in front of them when considering their options for next year.
