Early offer scheme applications hit record high

20 Sep 2024

A record number of Year 12 students have applied for an early offer through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

When applications closed on 16 September, more than 27,000 students had applied for the Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) – an 18.95 per cent increase on last year and the largest cohort yet – higher than during COVID-19. Through SRS institutions make early offers of admission using criteria other than (or in addition to) the ATAR.

The jump in applications could be due to a number of factors according to UAC spokesperson Kim Paino.

‘UAC has made it easier for students to apply for SRS this year – after submitting their undergraduate application, they can apply for SRS in just a few simple clicks.

‘In addition, the agreement that universities wait until September to release direct offers has shifted the timeframe of student consideration to later in the year, aligning more closely with the timing of SRS.’

Students need to finalise their course preferences for the first SRS offer round by 11.59pm on Friday 1 November. The first SRS offers will be released on Friday 8 November.
