This degree equips practitioners with the knowledge and professional competencies required for a career in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and herb dispensing. Building a solid, broad understanding of biomedicine and various health science fields in this way will give you a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese medicine and help you to work in interdisciplinary teams and centres and assist you in advising clients on treatment options.
Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Chinese medical theory and practice, human medical sciences including anatomy, pathophysiology, physiology and clinical assessment.
Private practice and working as a member of an interdisciplinary team in a clinic that offers a range of therapies. Other opportunities include working in pharmaceutical and herbal companies in product development, management and sales; conducting medical research; healthcare consultancy.
Approved as meeting the accreditation requirements of the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia to qualify graduates for general registration in the three divisions of Acupuncturist, Chinese Herbal Medicine Practitioner and Chinese Herbal Dispenser. Students who complete Western’s Bachelor of Traditional Chinese Medicine including 10-week block clinical training at Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NUCM) are eligible to apply for the NUCM award of Bachelor of Medicine. NUCM is one of leading Chinese medicine Universities in China.
A total of 900 hours of clinical experience is required. In second, third and fourth years, students undertake 250 hours of experience at Western Sydney University's on-site clinical training facility, with a further 250 hours of placements at external clinics. Fourth-year students can undertake 400 hours of clinical experience at a hospital in China affiliated with Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine. Western Sydney University staff assist in making arrangements and accompany students to the hospital site and the hospital provides experienced clinical supervisors and interpreters. Students contribute financially to the fourth-year placement in China. Government funding (New Colombo Plan Mobility Program) may be available for eligible students.
Alternative local arrangements are available for students unable to travel to China. Professional practice placements require full-time attendance.

Bachelor of Applied Data Science
Bachelor of Applied Data Science is a cross-disciplinary degree that can be taken in combination with any Western Sydney University bachelor degree.
The course teaches a blend of skills, including mathematics, statistics and computing. Graduates will know how to embark on data-driven investigations, and conduct visual and computational analytics for application in their own primary research.
Expressions of interest in the course will be taken during the UAC application process, and eligible students who have expressed an interest and received an offer to another Western Sydney University course will be invited to join the Bachelor of Applied Data Science.
Bachelor of Creative Leadership

This degree can be taken concurrently with any Western Sydney University bachelor’s degree and provides you the opportunity to cultivate comprehensive knowledge and skills in leadership and ethics, empowering you to enhance your ability to navigate complexity through advanced logical, entrepreneurial, and systems thinking.
This program is made available to high-achieving students only and requires a minimum GPA of 5 for entry.
Bachelor of Entrepreneurship
Bachelor of Entrepreneurship is a cross-disciplinary degree that can be taken with any Western Sydney University bachelor degree.
The program will develop mindset, risk tolerance, creativity, passion, big thinking, team formation and leadership capabilities – the key distinct characteristics of high impact entrepreneurs. In an entrepreneurial ecosystem, students will learn the knowledge and techniques for opportunity discovery, impact analysis, customer analysis, strategic teambuilding and leadership, the psychology and ethics of the start-up, funding modelling and financial analysis, growth and exit strategies.
Master of Research
This is an elite research degree available to meritorious students in most undergraduate degrees. As an internationally recognised qualification it will allow students to access global employment opportunities and research education.
