With a combined engineering and science degree, you’ll gain the technological expertise to determine scientific problems plus the practical engineering skills needed to implement effective solutions. Add to this cutting-edge practical laboratory skills as well as an understanding of intellectual property and the ethical issues related to science research.
Following admission, students may add the Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice. This extends the course to six years and includes two six-month periods of internship in a workplace setting.
Engineering: Civil, data science, electrical, electronic, mechanical, mechatronic, renewable energy, software. Flexible engineering is also available with this combined degree. Science: Applied physics, biomedical science, biotechnology, chemistry, environmental science, mathematics, medical science, nanotechnology.
Medical technology and instrumentation, biotechnology, environmental protection and management, energy and resource exploration and development, communications, mathematical modelling, transport, construction, nanotechnology, molecular biology, materials technology.
The accreditation status of the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is dependent upon the Engineering major that is chosen; refer to the standalone Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) pages for details. Other professional bodies may apply depending on the science specialisation.
All students are required to complete a minimum of 12 weeks work experience. Students in the optional Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice undertake 2 x 6-month Work Integrated Learning internships in year 2 and year 4 which integrates theory with practice.
Available in the science degree as an additional year to meritorious students.

Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Extension 1, Physics, English Standard.
Recommended studies: English Advanced. For civil major: Chemistry. For the software engineering major: a sound knowledge of the fundamentals of programming is recommended.
Questionnaire: Applicants are advised to complete the Year 12 Engineering and IT Questionnaire.
Statement of service: Applicants are advised to complete the employment question on their UAC application and provide statements of service to UAC, as an adjustment of up to five points to your selection rank may be awarded on the basis of relevant employment experience. You will have had to have met the UTS minimum matriculation requirements in order for your employment experience to be assessed, and your documented employment experience must be at least one full-time year or greater.
