Are you interested in studying overseas, learning languages and gaining the intercultural skills required to work in diverse contexts both in Australia and internationally? At UTS you can combine up to 30 professional degrees with a Bachelor of International Studies that will allow you to do just that.
Our combined International Studies degrees enable you to learn a language (Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese or Spanish), deepen your understanding of your chosen major’s history and culture, develop intercultural communication skills, and provide you the opportunity to study abroad and/or undertake an internship at an international organisation.
You will choose one of the following three options:
1. Language, culture and the professional world: includes an internship and option of a short study abroad experience (2-6 weeks) overseas.
2. Language, culture and global exchange: includes an internship and a 6-month global exchange at any UTS partner university.
3. International Honours: includes a full year at a relevant overseas partner university where you will complete an honours-level research project. You will undertake this 'embedded' International Honours in your fourth or final year of your degree, and graduate at the same time as your peers who are enrolled in the first two options.
Please note:
Leading employers value people with strong communication skills and those who can work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures. Combining your professional degree with International Studies means you achieve two qualifications and develop the much sought-after intercultural communication skills to successfully operate in diverse professional contexts in Australia and internationally.
Refer to the International Studies course requirements of specific degrees.

Refer to the relevant single degree entries as it is this component of the combined degree that typically directs students' career opportunities. Students also gain qualifications in language, intercultural competence, international awareness and a country/region speciality all of which are highly valued by employers in the global workplace.
Students in the non-International Honours streams will undertake an industry placement in their fourth year and have the option of completing a 6-month global exchange at any UTS partner university or a short international intensive elective (2 to 6 weeks).
Honours students spend an academic year studying in the local language at a university in the country of their major in the fourth year of the program.
