Civil and environmental engineers play a key role in the design of sustainable urban infrastructure and construction activities in natural systems. Students in this major use their disciplinary knowledge in civil engineering as well as their knowledge of the interrelationships between humans and the environment to develop effective management strategies for controlling water, waste, air and noise pollution problems. Graduates from this degree are in an excellent position to undertake roles in environmental consulting, local, state and federal government agencies and catchment management authorities.

Civil engineering, construction materials, environmental planning and law, green technologies, geotechnics, pollution and waste management, project management, renewable energy, steel/concrete/timber design, structural analysis, surveying, transport, water and environmental design.
Environmental consulting, water treatment, waste and soil remediation, energy industries, local councils and state/federal government agencies, catchment management authorities and international development organisations.
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) majoring in Civil and Environmental Engineering is fully accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer and is recognised internationally by signatories to the Washington Accord.
All students are required to complete a minimum of 12 weeks work experience. Students in the Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice undertake 2 x 6-month Work Integrated Learning internships in year 2 and year 4 which integrates theory with practice.

Portfolio: Current school leavers can support their application by submitting the Year 12 Engineering and IT Portfolio via UAC.
Statement of service: Applicants are advised to complete the employment question on their UAC application and provide statements of service to UAC, as an adjustment of up to five points to their selection rank may be awarded on the basis of relevant employment experience. Applicants will have had to have met the UTS minimum matriculation requirements in order for their employment experience to be assessed, and their documented employment experience must be at least one full-time year or greater.
