Delivered in partnership with the Taronga Conservation Society of Australia, this unique degree will develop your expertise in wildlife conservation. Designed for those who have a passion for animals and dream of making an impact in the conservation sector, this degree provides highly sought-after skills and interactive, practical experiences in the field and onsite at Taronga Zoo Sydney. You will be taught by dedicated researchers and practitioners from two of Australia’s premier institutions – the University of Sydney and Taronga Conservation Society of Australia. .
Areas of study
Core units in biology, ecology, evolution and conservation management plus additional prescribed units of study, some of which are available only to students enrolled in this degree. The majors available in the Bachelor of Wildlife Conservation (Taronga) are: Animal Health, Disease and Welfare, Biology, Environmental Studies, Genetics and Genomics and Marine Sciences.
You will learn about evolutionary and ecological processes and how these influence the population dynamics of animals, plants, and other organisms. This knowledge forms the basis for the effective management and conservation of biodiversity, ecosystems, and habitats. Capstone units will explicitly address concepts of wildlife management, health and welfare, and the intersection between applied wildlife biology and human dimensions of wildlife management.

Industry experience
The Bachelor of Wildlife Conservation (Taronga) requires interactions with industry partners, particularly Taronga Conservation Society of Australia, with activities including assessment of the behaviour, health, welfare and conservation status of captive and free-living wild animals.
Students enrolled in any course requiring exposure to animals and wildlife, farm visits, animal handling enterprises, or the handling of animal specimens must be protected against Q Fever infection and tetanus. Vaccination must be undertaken prior to the commencement of semester one. Details of vaccination requirements.

Applicants with recent secondary education
Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Standard, Biology, Chemistry. Other assumed knowledge depends on majors or units of study chosen.
Bridging courses are available for students who have not studied the assumed knowledge during secondary school.
