The Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended) is a four-year degree for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to undertake studies in an academically and culturally supported environment. The degree will equip you with communication, critical and analytical skills as well as provide you with an opportunity to make connections between in- depth study of a discipline area in humanities and social sciences, and knowledge of culture and practice.
You will begin study with a cohort of students engaged in culturally relevant literacy and mathematics studies and other available units. You will then undertake a major in either Science or Arts, complemented by studies from the other study area. In addition, you will be able to choose from a set of liberal studies units in areas of communication, analytical thinking, ethics, culture, society and global citizenship, scientific inquiry and technological literacy. This degree is your first step towards a career in the arts or sciences, or as preparation for other specialised degrees at the University.
Throughout the degree you will have access to tailored academic support and tutors, mentors through our Mentoring our Brothers and Sisters (MOBS) program. You will also have access to opportunities including internships, study abroad and projects and placements in Community and industry.
You will complete foundation units in academic studies and numeracy and an Indigenous Cultural Capstone Project. At least one major must be chosen from 513200 Bachelor of Arts or 513910 Bachelor of Science. You will undertake a sequence of units in Science (if an Arts major is chosen), or a sequence of units in Arts (if a Science major is chosen), and a sequence in the liberal studies stream.

You will have the opportunity to gain industry experience through interdisciplinary project units with industry, community or research projects.
The Australian Government provides funds for student travel and accommodation for first year where eligibility requirements are met. The Australian Government subsidises the tuition fee for this course. The remaining balance is paid by the student. Current University of Sydney fee information.
Additional selection criteria: Entry to the Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Science (Extended) is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. Selection is on the basis of a secondary school leaving qualification and performance in an assessment process, which may include a written assessment, personal statement and an interview.

OLEs are available to all students at the University, while students commencing in liberal studies degrees (Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Commerce or combined Bachelor of Advanced Studies) and some specialist degrees (Bachelor of Economics) must complete 6 credit points of OLE units.
