The course has a person-centred approach to nursing and health care. As a graduate you will be prepared with the requisite knowledge and critical thinking skills to deliver the highest quality care while facing the challenges of a constantly changing and increasingly complex healthcare environment.
Acute care, aged care, child and adolescent health, chronic illness, clinical practice, high acuity, Indigenous First Nations Peoples’ health, mental health, pharmacology, physiology, primary health care, community nursing, professional practice, social and health policy.
Registered nurses working in a range of settings and contexts including, for example, aged care, cancer care, clinical trials, research, quality and safety, community health, critical care, disaster management, education and health promotion, health policy, health management, immunisation, mental health, perioperative care, pharmaceutical industries, public health, rural and remote area health.
This course is accredited by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council, and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia. Graduates are eligible to apply for registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a nurse in Australia with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (conditions apply).
A minimum of 800 hours of clinical and practical experience is undertaken throughout the course. Clinical placement experience commences at the end of semester one in the first year. Placements are located in a variety of setting, including for example, acute hospital environments, mental health and community health facilities, primary care, and in regional and rural settings. In addition to clinical placement, you will also undertake learning in clinical simulation laboratories.
The Australian Government subsidises the tuition fee for this course. The remaining balance is paid by the student. Current University of Sydney fee information.
