About
Software engineers address all aspects of software production from strategy and design to coding, quality and management. This course includes foundations in mathematics, computer science and computer system principles plus studies in programming languages, databases, operating systems and enterprise, and internet scale systems.
You may apply to change your chosen Engineering stream after enrolment. Any change should be made as early as possible in the program to limit the need for catch-up work and to ensure satisfactory completion of the requirements for the new stream.
Areas of study
Specialisations are optional. You may choose a software engineering specialisation in computer engineering, engineering data science, internet of things or intelligent information engineering. You may also broaden your studies by choosing a specialisation in humanitarian engineering or innovation and entrepreneurship.

Roles in artificial intelligence, control systems, database management, information technology, internet programming, language compilers, multimedia and telecommunication software systems, real-time software engineering and reliable biomedical systems.

This degree is accredited by Engineers Australia and the Australian Computer Society. Our graduates are recognised internationally through the Washington Accord of the International Engineering Alliance and the Seoul Accord.
Practical experience
All Bachelor of Engineering Honours students in both single and combined degrees are required to undertake a minimum level of professional engagement activities (such as industry placements).

Prerequisites
Mathematics Advanced (Band 4) or Mathematics Extension 1 (Band E3) or Mathematics Extension 2 (Band E3).
