Dietitians apply the science of food and nutrition to promote health, prevent and treat disease to optimise the health of individuals, groups, communities, and populations.
The course is designed to meet the Dietitians Australia National Competency Standards for Dietitians including the key areas of professional practice.
These skills can then be applied to all areas of practice including clinical dietetics in hospitals and private practice, community and public health nutrition, food service systems management, and research.
Our School of Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences has modern purpose-built teaching and research facilities including access to well-equipped simulation labs, a clinical trials facility in the Illawarra Health and Medical Research Institute (IHMRI), nutrition related laboratories such as those addressing food preparation (diet laboratories), dietary analyses (computer laboratories). You may also engage in research in hospital, food service, aged care, community or a range of other settings.
Graduates undertake professional placement in a range of areas including general and specialist hospitals in local, regional and rural areas, as well as in a variety of community and industry settings.
Biochemistry, dietetics and nutrition theory, food and nutrition policy, food innovation, nutrition science, physiology, professional competence in dietetic practice, public health nutrition.
Clinical dietitian, food scientist, health coach, health communications and media, health policy development, health promotions officer, nutritionist, nutritionist consultant, research dietitian, sports dietitian.
The Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours) has full accreditation with the Dietitians Association of Australia (DAA), making all graduates eligible for the credential of Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD). The course meets the requirements of the Nutrition Society of Australia (NSA) for graduates to register as nutrition scientists, following 3 years of relevant work experience after graduation.
Practical placements are built into the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (Honours). Every clinical placement will develop the practical skills that you need to become a highly sought-after graduate. You will gain experience in a variety of community, industry and hospital settings which will provide you with rigorous training in nutrition science and dietetics.

Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Advanced, any 2 units of science.
Recommended studies: Biology, Chemistry.
Bridging courses in Biology and Chemistry are offered in February each year.
