You will learn the core fundamentals of science across practical and theoretical subjects in the first year of your degree before deciding which major/minor disciplines to focus on from the second year. You will complete extensive professional experience throughout your degree, which allows you to learn by observation and apply your skills in the lab.

Professional recognition

Cell and molecular biology major: Graduates qualify to apply for membership of relevant professional societies, such as the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Australian Society for Microbiology. Chemistry major: Graduates qualify for membership of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. Ecology and conservation biology major: Graduates qualify to apply for membership of relevant professional societies, such as the Ecological Society of Australia.  Ecology and Conservation Biology - Graduates qualify to apply for membership of relevant professional societies, such as the Ecological Society of Australia.

Practical experience

The Bachelor of Science incorporates field and laboratory studies at all levels, providing extensive opportunities for hands-on learning both within UOW’s modern laboratories, and in the superb marine, freshwater, terrestrial and urban environments of the South Coast and inland regions. 

Honours

Available as an additional year of study to meritorious students.
