Develop a thorough grounding in law and learn to analyse information and forecast results when you study mathematics and law at UOW. You will explore the theoretical and practical applications of mathematics and statistics, and study how governments and businesses make important decisions using mathematical and statistical models as you develop essential practical legal skills and knowledge.
Double degrees broaden your knowledge, skills, and career opportunities by combining studies from distinct yet complimentary disciplines. Through this degree combination, you will enhance your ability to critically analyse, identify patterns and logic, and work within frameworks and systems.
You'll benefit by learning from recognised and passionate leaders in their fields. You will learn core fundamentals across practical and theoretical subjects in law in the first year of your degree before commencing a blend of law and mathematics subjects from your second year. You will also have the opportunity to select a major in Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics or Pure Mathematics.
Throughout this double degree, you will gain hands-on experience through a compulsory internship program, undertake an extensive integrated legal skills program, make meaningful professional connections, and be given the opportunity to pursue corporate scholarships, summer scholarships, and undergraduate research projects with academic staff.
Bachelor of Laws: Business and financial law, commercial law, constitutional law, contracts, criminal law, environmental law, family law, human rights, intellectual property, international law, jurisprudence, legal ethics, legal skills, litigation and practice skills/internships, property law, taxation, torts. Bachelor of Mathematics: Applied mathematics, applied statistics, or pure mathematics.
Bachelor of Laws: Solicitor, barrister, policy officer in government departments, in- house lawyer in private companies and community legal centres, accounting, banking and finance, business and management, education, government administration, media and communications. Bachelor of Mathematics: Financial modeller and analyst, investment analyst, statistician, operations researcher, transport analyst, biometrician, data analyst, market analyst.
Bachelor of Laws: Eligible for admission as a lawyer in Australia, subject to completing state-approved Practical Legal Training (PLT). Further details for NSW students can be found at the Legal Profession Admission Board website. Bachelor of Mathematics: The Applied Statistics major in the Bachelor of Mathematics degree is accredited by the Australian Mathematical Society.
Bachelor of Laws: Legal internship provides 20 working days of professional experience. Bachelor of Mathematics: Optional internships, industry projects and other career-ready learning opportunities.
Bachelor of Laws: Bachelor of Laws (Honours) is awarded on the basis of excellent performance throughout the course, as well as in a Legal Research Methodology subject and a Legal Research Thesis. Bachelor of Laws (Honours by Research) is available as an additional year of study to meritorious students. Bachelor of Mathematics: Available as an additional year of study to meritorious students.
All applicants must have studied the equivalent of Mathematics Advanced or higher at year 12 level.
Assumed knowledge: Any 2 units of English, Mathematics Advanced.
Recommended studies: English Advanced, Mathematics Extension 1.
