Exercise and Sport Science is an exciting and fast-growing discipline that investigates the most effective ways to prescribe and implement exercise programs to people seeking to maintain or improve their health and fitness levels. This may be for elite sports people or for recreational purposes.On completion of the Diploma in Exercise and Sport Science you will be armed with fundamental scientific knowledge, practical and academic skills.
Your preliminary understanding of exercise and sport science will prepare you to commence your journey to a rewarding career in this dynamic disciplinary field.
You will receive embedded support from the Pathways and Academic Learning Support Centre, including access to a dedicated Student Liaison Officer, a quiet workspace for independent study and smaller class sizes in your foundational courses.
The Diploma in Exercise and Sport Science provides you with a level 5 diploma qualification and a degree pathway at the University of Newcastle. Upon completion of the Diploma in Exercise and Sport Science you’ll receive guaranteed entry into the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and all programs in the Guaranteed Admissions Scheme.
Biomechanics, exercise across the lifespan, exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, functional anatomy, health and medicine, motor control and learning, physical activity and health, sport and exercise psychology, sports nutrition.
Exercise and Sport Science Professionals can pursue a broad range of career opportunities in a variety of settings including sporting organisations, gyms and fitness organisations, professional sporting teams, education and health promotion, health clinics and hospitals, corporate health, and academia. These may include exercise rehabilitation/injury management advisor, exercise scientist, player development manager, research scientist, sports administrator, sports development officer and more.
Applicants must satisfy the University of Newcastle English language proficiency requirements.
Assumed knowledge: At least 2 of: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics Advanced, Physics
Recommended studies: HSC Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) or equivalent
Applicants who achieve an ATAR (or equivalent) of 50 or above are eligible for admission.
