When you study a Bachelor of Media and Communication, you’ll develop cutting-edge skills needed to produce ground-breaking, thought-provoking, and engaging work in diverse media industries. With a range of course options, you’ll learn to push your individual creative boundaries, while embracing the changing nature of today’s complex communication landscape. Choose your major or areas of study and develop work-ready skills – from critical thinking and writing, to creating and producing content for television, film, documentaries, radio, print, gaming, and digital media.
Areas of study
Media arts production, news media, public relations. Additional major options are available to study alongside your communication major. Choose from animation and interaction, creative arts or graphic design and illustration.
Career opportunities
Camera operator, copywriter, editor, festival/events coordinator, foreign correspondent, film/television production assistant, film and documentary maker, media production editor, director, political adviser, travel writer.
Practical experience
You will complete 140 hours of supervised placement within your third year of study. Workplace experience is undertaken in your desired career field, including media, journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing, theatre production, musical ensembles, performing arts and visual communications.
Students participate in local industry placements such as NBN Television, The Newcastle Herald, ABC 1233, the University radio station 2NURFM, and internships with Channel 7 and Foxtel.
Honours
Available as an additional year (or part-time equivalent) to students based on merit.

Applicants with recent secondary education
Assumed knowledge: Any 2 units of English.

If you have completed prior studies at another higher education institution or registered training organisation, you may be eligible to receive credit towards your undergraduate degree. Please note that you must apply for admission before applying for credit.
