People exercise for many reasons, ranging from maintaining or improving health and fitness, to enhancing performance in recreational or elite sports. Exercise and sport science is an inspiring and rapidly evolving field that explores how to prescribe and deliver exercise for health and performance benefits. By studying the degree, you will be able to apply professional exercise science skills to improve lifestyle factors that help people be more active, live a healthier life or perform better. At the University of Newcastle, we have a globally recognised approach to the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science that encompasses all aspects of physical health and that is delivered through a combination of online and face-to-face teaching. Graduation from the Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science can lead to multiple career pathways and further study opportunities.
Biomechanics, exercise across the lifespan, exercise physiology, exercise testing and prescription, functional anatomy, motor control and learning, physical activity and health, sport and exercise psychology, sports nutrition.
Exercise scientist, exercise rehabilitation/injury management advisor, player development manager, research scientist, sports administrator, sports development officer. Available in a variety of settings including sporting organisations, gyms and fitness organisations, professional sporting teams, education and health promotion, health clinics and hospitals, corporate health, and academia.
This degree is offered at our Callaghan campus, co-located with the Forum Sports and Aquatic Centre. You will have access to world-class facilities including high-quality laboratories, the latest testing equipment, and a state-of-the-art gym.
You will gain valuable work experience in the sport and fitness industry through our professional placement program (140 hours).
In addition to placement within gyms and exercise clinics, we also have strong ties with the Newcastle Knights Rugby League Club, Central Coast Mariners Football Club, and the Newcastle Jets Football Club to ensure interesting and dynamic placement opportunities.
Graduates are eligible for accreditation with Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA).
Available as an additional year (or part time equivalent) to meritorious students.
Assumed knowledge: At least two of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics Advanced, Physics.
Recommended studies: Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE).
