Aerospace Systems Engineering involves the design, maintenance, support and upgrade of military and civilian aircraft, and satellite systems. Aerospace systems are complex systems involving lightweight flight platforms and their associated sensing, command, control and mission systems. This includes ground, air and space-based support, navigation and communications infrastructure. These are commonly referred to as ‘systems of systems’ and the associated systems engineering involves assuring reliable interaction of subsystems and reliable operation and performance of missions to meet specified sets of requirements.
Aerospace design and materials, aerospace system design, aircraft performance and operations, aircraft systems and avionics, automatic flight control systems, embedded systems engineering, principles of flight, propulsion systems.
Elective pathways: All University of Newcastle Engineering (Honours) programs facilitate the study of a wide range of elective pathways to customise our students' learning experience. These can deepen or broaden the knowledge base of the core program, depending on the student's desires and interests.
Aerospace systems engineer, satellite engineer, systems engineer, aerospace engineer with aircraft design and manufacturing companies, Australian and international airlines, airworthiness organisations, the Australian Defence Force, the prime defence contractors, airports, maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisations.
Graduates will also be well equipped to take up opportunities in systems engineering, mechanical and mechatronics engineering in other industries.
This program has received conditional provisional accreditation through Engineers Australia.
All University of Newcastle engineering students complete 12 weeks of industrial experience during their degree. Through your work placement, you’ll build important professional networks and put your learning into practice.
All graduates will be awarded Bachelor of Aerospace Systems Engineering (Honours), with graded honours awarded based on merit.
Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Advanced (Band 5 or above). Applicants who have achieved less than Band 5 may need additional study or assistance to successfully complete the mathematics requirement of the program.
Recommended studies: Mathematics Extension 1 or higher, any 2 units of science.
