About
As an environmental engineer you may help rehabilitate land impacted by mining or work on the clean-up of an oil spill that threatens ecosystems. You could even help prevent flooding of some of the world’s fast-growing cities. Environmental engineers apply their knowledge of chemistry, geomechanics, hydrology and land surface processes to find solutions for complex environmental problems. With a Bachelor of Environmental Engineering (Honours), you’ll be responsible for developing sustainable engineering practices that have a profound impact on health and quality of life – working with other specialists to optimise the use of resources and minimise long-term environmental impacts.
Areas of study
Biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, environmental planning and design, fluid mechanics, geotechnical engineering, hydro biological modelling, land and water management, surface and groundwater pollutant transport, waste treatment, water engineering.

These can deepen or broaden the knowledge base of the core program, depending on the student's desires and interests.

Practical experience

Admission criteria
Applicants with recent secondary education
Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Advanced (Band 5 or above). Applicants who achieve less than Band 5 may need additional study or assistance to successfully complete the mathematics requirement of the program.
Recommended studies: Mathematics Extension 1 or higher, any 2 units of science..
