Electrical and electronic engineering enables modern applications through electrical signals and energy. From large-scale power plants to tiny integrated circuits, electrical and electronic engineers design and build systems and machines that generate, transmit, measure, control and use electrical signals and energy. With a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (Honours), you could work with power systems and renewable energy technologies, industrial electronics, robotics, control systems, telecommunications or embedded systems. You might develop precision agriculture technology to increase food production efficiency and even build smart grid systems to help manage alternative energy resources. Or follow in the footsteps of our team of researchers and develop life-changing medical technology – like the artificial pancreas.

Elective pathways: All University of Newcastle Engineering (Honours) programs facilitate the study of a wide range of elective pathways to customise our students' learning experience. These can deepen or broaden the knowledge base of the core program, depending on the student's desires and interests.
Telecommunications equipment designer, electrical design engineer, automatic systems designer, robotics engineer, biomedical instrumentation designer, renewable energy systems engineer. You might focus on electronics engineering, automation and control engineering, robotic engineering or power generation and distribution. Complete one extra year of study and broaden your options with the Master of Professional Engineering.

All University of Newcastle engineering students complete 12 weeks of industrial experience during their degree. Through your work placement, you’ll build important professional networks and put your learning into practice.
All graduates will be awarded Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), with graded honours awarded based on merit.
Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Advanced (Band 5 or above). Applicants who achieve less than Band 5 may need additional study or assistance to successfully complete the mathematics requirement of the program.
Recommended studies: Mathematics Extension 1 or higher, any 2 units of science.
