The construction industry in Australia is booming. Construction managers lead and coordinate building and infrastructure projects. Working both on and off site, they schedule and coordinate the design and construction process as well as the budget and legal aspects of the project.
Construction management graduates work in a range of leadership roles in the industry. This includes project management, contract management, quantity surveying, estimating, building surveying, building certification, facilities management, property development and WHS. They manage physical building and infrastructure projects and can be site or office based.
This includes liaising with clients and consultants, and selecting, hiring and supervising various trade contractors. They’re also responsible for managing the legal and financial aspects of the project.

Construction Management students complete 16 weeks of professional practice. Through your work placement, you’ll build vital professional networks and put your learning into practice.
All University of Newcastle construction management students must complete a total of 16 weeks of industrial experience during their degree:
Career-ready/Industry Placement - 4 weeks. Placement opportunities are provided by industry and then promoted to students directly. Students may also organise their own industry placement.
Industrial Experience - 12 weeks. This can be completed in one block or as shorter placements of no less than two weeks.
All graduates will be awarded with Bachelor of Construction Management (Building) (Honours) with graded honours awarded based on merit.
Recommended studies: Mathematics Advanced, any 2 units of English.
