The Bachelor of Commerce is a practical and flexible degree, with core courses designed to give you a thorough overview of business and commerce environments, before you specialise in Accounting, Economics, or Finance. With the new structure of the Bachelor of Commerce degree, you have the option to choose a double specialization in one traditional commerce major: Accounting, Economics, or Finance, and a major in business: Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Leadership and Management, Human Resource Management or International Relations, broadening your skills and employability.
When you study a commerce degree, you will be equipped to make a smooth transition from the classroom to industry, by acquiring skills that employers value. Through courses in your chosen major(s), you will gain insight into the interplay between the financial, legal, political, and economic systems and how these factors influence the contemporary business environment, both in Australian and global contexts.
We work with industry to create employable graduates that possess the skills and business acumen employer’s desire. You will be studying in the state-of-the-art CBD vertical campus and the Greater Bank Finance Lab within the NUspace, which are impressive facilitates that provide you with hands-on learning environments. Our community-oriented UON Tax Clinic also hosts career ready placement to provide you real-world working experience that will set you up with a great start for your future.

Our Accounting major is designed to provide accreditation with the major professional bodies in accounting, including CPA Australia, CA Australia and New Zealand, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and Association of International Accountants (AIA).
Our Finance major is largely aligned with the curriculums required for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Level 1 exams that will help you to prepare a career as a financial analyst.
The University of Newcastle’s Newcastle Business School is in the top 4 business schools in NSW, accredited by both EQUIS and AACSB, an achievement earned by fewer than 5% of the world's business programs.
You will complete 140 hours of supervised placement within their third year of study that will enable them to apply knowledge developed throughout their studies and acquire new knowledge and professional networks to support career readiness. The professional experience placement course provides an opportunity to undertake workplace experience in the desired career field, including business analysis, consulting, project management, marketing, and business development.
The University of Newcastle Tax Clinic also hosts the career-ready placement.
Available to students as a separate program with a duration of one year full-time (or part-time equivalent) to those who meet the entry requirements.
