Help people reach peak performance with La Trobe's Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science.

Gain a detailed understanding of the science behind training, explore the strengths and limitations of the human body, and build strong foundations in exercise physiology, strength and conditioning, anatomy, biomechanics and motor learning. Use data and scientific principles and techniques to help people build strength, regain movement, prevent injuries and perform at their peak. Get out of the classroom with access to our elite athlete performance space, AFL oval, FIFA-1 accredited synthetic soccer pitch at Melbourne Campus. Build real-world experience and connections with 140 hours of industry placements, and learn at the uni of choice for studying and playing sport in Australia – the proud home of the CommBank Matildas.

Practical experience

During this course, you will participate in one or more supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice. The placements will immerse you in professional work culture, enabling you to develop and further enhance your skills.

Essential requirements for admission

Immunisation: Prior to commencing a placement, students are required to meet all of the requirements of the degree in relation to immunisation and testing for blood-borne viruses. Students must visit a medical practitioner who will complete and sign the Immunisation and Health Record form. Further information will be provided post enrolment.

National Police Record Check: Successful applicants will be required to hold a valid National Police Record Check for professional placements as part of this course.

Working With Children Check: Applicants will be required to hold a valid Working with Children check. For information please refer to the Working with Children Check Victoria website.

First Aid and/or CPR: First Aid and/or CPR certification is required to meet the professional requirements of the degree. Further information will be provided post enrolment.

Prerequisites

One of English Advanced (Band 2) or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 3), plus Band 2 in one of Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics Standard 1, Mathematics Standard 2, Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 2, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) or Physics.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Subject adjustments: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 subjects will have their selection rank increased by one point per study:

  • • Band 3 in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Mathematics Standard 1, Mathematics Standard 2, Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 2, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Physics;
  • Band 2 in any language other than English.

Selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of five points.
