In our Bachelor of Education, you'll get the skills, experience and confidence to make a difference from your first day as a qualified teacher. Carefully designed by leaders in the learning sciences, you'll learn the most up-to-date and proven approaches to teaching, then put them into practice.
Learn from currently practising teachers and be prepared to teach in any school. You'll spend at least 80 days in schools and education centres, learning how to manage classrooms, design class plans and guide students. You’ll graduate with the most up-to-date skills needed for the modern classroom.
Take your time. You won’t have to decide what you’ll teach – secondary, primary or early childhood any primary – until the end of your first year. Offered at every La Trobe campus in Victoria, you'll benefit from flexible learning – online, in schools, in community and on campus.

Depending on your specialisation, you can apply for registration to teach in primary schools, secondary schools, early childhood settings, community organisations or non-traditional learning environments.

During this course, you will participate in one or more supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practise newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice. The placements will immerse you in professional work culture, enabling you to develop and further enhance your skills.

Situational Judgement test: All applicants will complete a situation judgement test to support selection into teaching programs. This is a requirement for initial teacher training courses in Victoria and aims to assess an applicant’s personal and professional attributes. You can either register to sit the online Casper Test or the La Trobe University School of Education Aptitude for Teaching Assessment (AFTA).
Working With Children Check: Successful applicants will be required to hold a valid Working With Children Check prior to undertaking professional placements as part of this course.
Literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (compulsory): All students completing an initial teacher education course are expected to sit and pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Teachers prior to completing their course.
One of English Advanced (Band 3) or English as an Additional Language or Dialect (Band 4) plus Band 2 in one of Mathematics Standard 1, Mathematics Standard 2, Mathematics Advanced or Mathematics Extension 2.
Minimum selection rank (ATAR + adjustment factors): 70.00 or equivalent. If applicable, this includes adjustment factors related to the Educational Access Scheme (EAS).
Subject proficiency: Demonstrated proficiency equivalent to stated Year 12 prerequisites.
