Tailored for enrolled nurses seeking to further their qualifications and expand their career opportunities, this degree will prepare you to transition to registered nurse status in just two years (or part-time equivalent). You’ll learn from leading experts and develop your clinical practice and critical thinking skills to provide excellent nursing care through clinical placements across the health sector. You may also have the opportunity to undertake rural, remote and overseas placements. Griffith is ranked tied first in Australia and third in the world for nursing and midwifery in the 2023 Shanghai Ranking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects. Graduates are eligible to apply for entry to Griffith’s specialised nursing postgraduate programs.
Note: Admission via the Bachelor of Nursing (Advanced Standing) pathway is competitive as the number of applicants generally exceeds the places available. Diploma of Nursing applicants will be required to complete the Nursing Admission Questionnaire as an additional selection criteria. Students can take this program part-time but attendance at day classes is generally required. Part-time students must be available full-time for professional placements.

Nursing.
As a registered nurse, you’ll be equipped for complex care scenarios, making critical decisions, coordinating care, educating patients and their families, and supervising enrolled nurses. You may find work in hospitals, practices and community health settings, both in urban and rural settings.

Students must undertake placements. A health check, including immunisation status, a Working with Children check and Australian Federal Police check is required. Applicants must complete a nationally accredited first aid certificate with CPR (at their own expense) by the end of the first trimester.
Non-current registered nurse status: This program is not available to applicants who hold a qualification in nursing acceptable for registration as a registered nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency/Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
Additional selection criteria: A limited number of places are available for the advanced standing pathway and additional selection criteria (Nursing Admission Questionnaire) may apply. Griffith will email the questionnaire to applicants. Applicants must be eligible for admission into Year 2 with credit transfer, ie hold a Diploma of Nursing from an accredited Australian Education Provider and unconditional registration (without restrictions) as an Enrolled Nurse (Division 2), General with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)—note that registration under the AHPRA Pandemic Response Sub Register is not accepted—or hold a Diploma of Nursing Science from Griffith University/Diploma of Health Care from Griffith College.
Internationally Qualified Nurses will be assessed and advised on a case-by-case basis. Internationally Qualified Nurses must demonstrate recency of practice (within a period of five years) and have unconditional registration where they are working as a Registered Nurse. Note: we follow Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) guidelines regarding recency of practice. Applicants must have a minimum of 450 hours accumulated over the past five years. English Language Proficiency Requirements: To enrol in this program, you must have attended and satisfactorily completed at least 6 years of primary and secondary education taught and assessed solely in English. At least two years of this education must have been between grades 7 and 12. This education must have been completed in one of the following countries; Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America. If you have not met these educational requirements, you are required to provide evidence of an acceptable English Language test or evidence that you are currently registered as an Enrolled Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
