Courses included
Guided by experts with links to the health sector, you’ll learn how to improve people's social, economic, personal and communal wellbeing. This includes families in need, younger or older people, and people living with injury or disability. Graduates have the ability to work with individuals, families and communities to bring real change to people’s lives. This degree provides hands-on experience and is highly flexible with full-time, part-time and distance study options available.
Note: Students need to be available full-time in the final trimester for a professional placement. An accelerated pathway enabling completion of the degree in a shorter timeframe (2 to 2.5 years full-time) is available. In the accelerated pathway, students study over three trimesters each year. Distance students must be available to attend 15 days of face-to-face intensive study at the Gold Coast campus throughout the program.
Advocacy and research, child, youth and family practice, criminal justice policy, wellbeing and aging.
Roles in community planning and development, family support, welfare services, mental health services, policy development and research, community centres, child protection, correctional services, youth work, women’s services, aged care and children’s services, disability services, employment and vocational rehabilitation services.
Graduates are eligible for registration with the Australian Community Workers Association subject to meeting any additional requirements.
Students must undertake placements. Some placements may be outside the Brisbane metropolitan/Gold Coast area including northern New South Wales and (by negotiation) interstate. Distance education students should be aware that if they live in remote or rural areas, they may need to travel to professional placements that may incur accommodation and living expenses. A Griffith University placement officer will help find suitable local placements. However, this cannot always be guaranteed. Visit the Griffith University website for professional practice requirements.
Assumed knowledge: Any two units of English (Band 3).
Griffith VET Guarantee applies to this program.
