Human services professionals help improve people’s social, economic, personal and communal wellbeing. This degree will equip you to work with individuals, families, and communities. You will learn from experts with links to health and community sectors, and government and non-government organisations. You will learn about human services in Australia and develop the knowledge and skills needed to build a better future for individuals and families in need, younger and older people, and persons living with disability. Through the course of your studies, you will develop a clear and insightful understanding of the principles of social justice, empowerment, and social inclusion. You will complete a four-day-a-week, trimester-long practice placement in your final year of study. This degree is highly flexible with full-time, part-time and distance education study options available.
Note: Students can enrol in the Distance Education offering of the program and will be able to complete the program off-campus by distance learning via our online learning management system online with the exception of three compulsory five-day face-to-face intensive on-campus courses.
Children, youth and family; criminal justice; disability, wellbeing and ageing; policy, advocacy and research.
You'll be ready for a career in community planning and development, welfare services, family support, mental health services, correctional services, policy development and research, rehabilitation services, women’s services, working with older people, and youth work.
Graduates are eligible for registration with the Australian Community Workers Association subject to meeting any additional requirements.
In this program, you will spend 400 hours (four days per week) in the work/professional environment during trimester six of the full-time program or equivalent. Placements may be outside of the Brisbane metropolitan/Gold Coast area including Northern New South Wales and (by negotiation) interstate or overseas.
Assumed knowledge: Any two units of English (Band 3).
