About

This degree will give you a thorough grounding in clinical, developmental, biological, cognitive, social and organisational psychology. You’ll learn how to use interpersonal skills and the principles of counselling to help people with personal, health, vocational and social difficulties. You’ll also learn how to apply psychological theories to topics such as thinking and perceiving, motivation, stress, health and group behaviour; evaluate and understand tests that measure intellectual, behavioural and emotional states; and use counselling skills, coaching and group facilitation skills, and behaviour change skills. Eligible students will progress to a fourth year of study, where they’ll begin formal research training and be introduced to professional psychological practice.

Students must meet the required level of academic achievement to progress into the fourth year.

Areas of study

Minors: Clinical and counselling, development and community, health and sport/exercise, organisational, psychological science.

Career opportunities

General psychologist in areas such as mental health, community, educational, organisational, or forensic settings; job placement and recruitment, counselling, guidance, and social research. You can also pursue further studies to work in specialist fields, including clinical psychology, organisational psychologist and more.

Professional recognition

As a graduate of the Honours year in Psychology you may be eligible to apply for associate membership of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

To undertake a placement in fourth year you must meet all professional practice requirements.
