About

You’ll develop thorough grounding in clinical, developmental, biological, cognitive, and social and organisational psychology and learn how to apply interpersonal skills and the principles of counselling to help people with personal, health, vocational and social difficulties. Additionally, you’ll understand psychological theories on topics such as motivation and stress, evaluate and understand tests that measure intellectual behavioural and emotional stress. Honours adds a fourth year to the Bachelor of Psychology, and eligibility is subject to academic achievement. If eligible, you’ll complete a professional work placement and an individual research project, along with studying four core courses.

Career opportunities

General psychologist in areas such as clinical, health, community, educational, organisational, or forensic settings, job placement and recruitment, counselling, guidance, and social research. You can also pursue further studies to work in specialist fields, including becoming a clinical psychologist, organisational psychologist, or other specialist psychologist.

Professional recognition

As a graduate of the honours year in Psychology you may be eligible to apply to undertake postgraduate studies in Psychology. You may also be eligible to apply for associate membership with the Australian Psychological Society. Full registration as a psychologist requires a further two years of approved psychology postgraduate study or supervised practice with a registered psychologist.

Applicants applying to commence in Trimester 3, 2023 also need to meet the following subject prerequisite: Any two units of English (Band 3).
