About

In this double degree you’ll combine design creativity with business skills to allow you to take advantage of the commercialisation of visual communication design, interior and spatial design, product design, interaction design and immersive design. You will have a unique range of skills and abilities to bridge the creative-business divide. You'll gain an understanding of the changing role of design and have the opportunity to experience industry-related and research projects while specialising in selected studio areas. Graduates have a broad range of skills in creative design that they can effectively combine to manage creative ventures from a business perspective. Through your extensive practical experience opportunities, you’ll graduate with strong business networks and the authentic knowledge to apply your skills to a broad range of business environments. You’ll be prepared to work in a variety of design-related roles relevant to your chosen specialisation/s in not-for-profit, government and corporate organisations, as well as in start-ups and entrepreneurial enterprises.

Note: Students studying at Brisbane City (South Bank) are required to attend business courses at Brisbane South (Nathan).

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Assumed knowledge: Any two units of English (Band 3).

All applicants

Portfolio and interview: There are two admission pathways to the Bachelor of Design/Bachelor of Business. Applicants may be considered via one of the following:
Guaranteed ATAR/Rank of 70.00 or above, or via Portfolio and interview.

Admission via portfolio requires applicants to submit a portfolio and attend an interview. Portfolios are submitted directly to Griffith University via an online submission portal from 1 April - 30 April 2025 closing date for Trimester 2, 2025. Portfolio applicants will be invited to attend an interview at Queensland College of Art and Design, Brisbane City (South Bank) or the Gold Coast campus or via Teams on Wednesday 21 May 2025.

Applicants should also refer to this Portfolio website for the most up to date advice and messaging. Applicants are encouraged to submit a portfolio and attend an interview even if confident they will meet the ATAR/Rank Guarantee. Applicants must pay the $55 non-refundable portfolio submission fee to Griffith University.

To be considered for portfolio admission for Trimester 2, 2025, applicants must apply to UAC, pay the portfolio fee and submit their portfolio to Griffith University by 30 April 2025. Applicants will still be able to apply after this date and be considered for ATAR/Rank admission.
