Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)

During the first three years of the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) students will acquire knowledge about fundamental topics in psychology, including interpersonal communication skills, lifespan development, biological psychology, social psychology, abnormal psychology, individual differences, cross-cultural psychology, and other areas of applied psychology as well as research methods. Students will develop skills in research, communication and problem-solving. In the fourth year of the course, students will build upon this foundational knowledge and learn more about topics that are relevant to psychological practice, including assessment, intervention, and professional issues and ethics. Students will undertake advanced research training, culminating in the development of a project which they will design, conduct, and report in a scholarly format.

Note that to progress to the third and fourth year of this course, students need to maintain a minimum GPA and meet additional requirements.

Career opportunities

This course, with an embedded honours year, ensures that graduates of this course will be eligible to apply for provisional registration as a psychologist (subject to the conditions prescribed by the Psychology Board of Australia). They may also find employment in fields such as child welfare and development, education, health, human resources, marketing and market research.

Professional recognition

This course is currently accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) and undergoing scheduled re-accreditation for 2025 onwards. Upon completion of this degree, students will be eligible for provisional registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia. Please note that after completion of an APAC-accredited undergraduate and Honours degree, a further minimum of two years education and training in psychology is required to register as a psychologist in Australia.

Practical experience

100 hours of community engagement during third year. Before students can begin community engagement for this course, they might have to meet mandatory state or territory legal and industry policy requirements.
