The ICMS Master of Information Technology (Big Data and Analytics) is an innovative postgraduate degree which meets an explosion of opportunity for those who can design, develop, and implement contemporary and creative data analytics solutions to complex real-world problems.

This is an exciting time to be in Information Technology (IT). New skills such as data visualisation, data analytics programming, big data and artificial intelligence (AI) are now being demanded by organisations who recognise the need to be able to  respond to fast changing technologies quickly.

Big Data Analytics professionals leverage the power of big data to inform strategic decision making and drive change within organisations.

The MIT (Big Data and Analytics) is a contemporary and industry-aligned degree designed to develop critical judgment, advanced knowledge and specialised skills to be able to succeed in the dynamic data analytics sector.

The degree blends the practical and theoretical aspects of data analytics across a range of essential IT domains, encompassing Business Intelligence, Big Data Architecture and Management, Persuasive Data Visualisation and Communication, Advanced Data Analytics, Deep Learning Analytics and Cyber Security as integral components of their comprehensive curriculum. Additionally, students will have an opportunity to complete a Data Analytics IT Consulting Project,

The ICMS Master of Information Technology (Big Data and Analytics) offers:

  • 6 x Specialisation subjects
  • 2 x WIL Professional Placement subjects (Internship)
  • 2 x Elective subjects

With a strong emphasis on industry relevance, the ICMS MIT (Big Data and Analytics) degree goes beyond theoretical knowledge, placing students in real-world IT job settings as an integral part of their qualifications.

As an ICMS MIT (Big Data and Analytics) student you will have the opportunity to complete a Professional Placement (internship) in an Australian or international business within your two (2) Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subjects, included within the degree.

Professional placements are arranged for you by the dedicated ICMS WIL team who will work with you to secure an individually tailored internship role aimed at building your Australian business networks and connections, as well as providing real life work experience that supports your future career aspirations.

Admission criteria

Academic Requirements for ICMS MIT Degrees:

  • Successful completion of a bachelor degree (AQF 7) from an Australian higher education institution or equivalent; or
  • Successful completion of at least two (2) award, or non-award, postgraduate subjects (at AQF Level 8 or above) from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent; or
  • Successful completion of an approved Postgraduate Qualifying Program from an Australian higher education institution or overseas equivalent; or
  • For mature age entry (21+): successful completion of a diploma or associate degree qualification (or equivalent as recognised by the Australian Government’s qualifications recognition tool) and four years of relevant IT professional or management experience.
