About

Organisational psychologists work with people and organisations. They are experts in areas such as leadership and talent management, recruitment, performance management, occupational health and safety, change management and career development.

This course will provide you with the skills, knowledge and qualifications to work in a wide range of organisations such as consultancies, large companies and government departments. Upon graduation, you'll be eligible for registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Admission criteria

Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited AQF Level 7 (Years 1-3) and Level 8 (Honours or 4th year equivalent) qualification(s) in psychology, or equivalent, including international qualification(s) deemed equivalent by the Australian Psychological Society:

• Minimum WAM of 75 for Years 1-3 of APAC accredited AQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent in psychology, including international qualification(s) deemed equivalent by the Australian Psychological Society
• Minimum WAM of 80 in Year 4 (Honours or 4th year equivalent) of APAC accredited AQF Level 8 psychology qualification or equivalent, including internationalqualification(s) deemed equivalent by the Australian Psychological Society

In addition:

• Eligibility for provisional or full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
• Relevant work experience
• Two satisfactory referee reports
• Satisfactory personal statement(s)
• Satisfactory Multiple Mini Interview performance

Please note that applicants who have achieved WAMs less than the stated requirements will be excluded from the applicant pool. Additionally, shortlisting for the Multiple Mini Interview selection event is based on academic performance in only the Years 1-3 of APAC accredited AQF Level 7 qualification or equivalent in psychology, including international qualification(s) deemed equivalent by the Australian Psychological Society and all other information provided during the application process. This includes information provided to the Universities Admission Centre (UAC), referee reports, and completion of the Macquarie University Supplementary Form. Invitations for the interviews and offers for admission to the course are highly competitive. Meeting the minimum stated requirements does not guarantee an invitation to attend the interviews or admission to the course.

To apply, applicants must complete all below steps:

• UAC application, including the uploading of your academic transcripts and curriculum Vitae (CV).
• Complete MQ PG Supplementary form (including information about publication and work experience).
• Submit x 2 referees via The Australian Psychology Post-Graduate Program Reference Request Portal. (Note: This system is used by a number of Australian universities. You will need to have an active subscription which will be valid for 1 year (1 August to 31 July each year). You will need to sign up to the portal by clicking on ‘Sign up’ at the bottom of the page and follow the steps).

Incomplete applications cannot be considered for progression to the interview stage.

Applicants who completed their psychology undergraduate degree overseas are also required to prove that their qualifications are equivalent to those offered in Australia by submitting them to the Australian Psychological Society (APS) for assessment. Equivalency is determined by the APS; the outcome of the APS assessment must be submitted with the application. 

• Meet the minimum English language proficiency requirements.

Applications for this program are competitive. Satisfying the admission criteria does not guarantee a place in the program. Shortlisted applicants will also be required to attend an interview. Interviews will take place from mid to late November.

First round offers will commence from mid-December. Waitlisted applicants may be offered places on a continuous basis if higher-ranked applicants decline.

Additional information

Limited Commonwealth-supported places (CSPs) are available for this course and will be awarded on merit. Eligible applicants who are not offered a CSP will be recommended for fee-paying (FEE) places.
