About
Our Design and Technology degree provides a sound knowledge in a broad range of work-ready design skills, including design thinking methods, drawing skills for creativity, design innovation, product design, human factors, design management, 2D graphics and 3D CAD. This course can lead to multiple career outcomes, including product design, packaging, modelling, prototyping and 3D printing, design for sustainability, new product-oriented Start-Up, or secondary school teaching (with additional qualifications). Specialisation study choices include Design Practice, Technology Entrepreneurship, Indigenous Australian Studies, Cultural and Social Analysis, Graphic Design, Construction Economics, Social Ecology, and Sustainable Futures. Students wishing to become industrial designers can articulate to the fourth year to the Bachelor of Industrial Design.
Areas of study
Computer aided design with advanced surface modelling, drawing skills for design thinking, design practice, design studio, human-centred design, applied design research, new product development, secondary teaching design content pathway subjects, sustainability, user interface design (UX), virtual augmented reality (VR & AR), start-up entrepreneurship.
Career opportunities
Studio-based designer, designing for sustainability, self-employed design business owner, new business model innovator, design advocacy including government and non-profit NGOs, or secondary school teaching (with further study).
Careers in teaching and education: Successful completion of this course may satisfy the entry requirements to Master of Teaching (Secondary) if you undertake discipline subjects that meet the requirements for your chosen area of teaching.
Professional recognition
Graduates are eligible for professional membership of the Design Institute of Australia.
Practical experience
An optional module of industry experience in the student's area of interest can be undertaken within Mentored Practice in Design Innovation. Work integrated learning and practice is a key feature of the course.

Applicants with recent secondary education
Assumed knowledge: Any two units of English plus at least two units of Design, Design and Technology, Visual Arts, Digital Multimedia, Engineering, or Business Studies.

Bachelor of Applied Data Science
Bachelor of Applied Data Science is a cross-disciplinary degree that can be taken in combination with any Western Sydney University bachelor degree.
The course teaches a blend of skills, including mathematics, statistics and computing. Graduates will know how to embark on data-driven investigations, and conduct visual and computational analytics for application in their own primary research.
Expressions of interest in the course will be taken during the UAC application process, and eligible students who have expressed an interest and received an offer to another Western Sydney University course will be invited to join the Bachelor of Applied Data Science.
Bachelor of Entrepreneurship
Bachelor of Entrepreneurship is a cross-disciplinary degree that can be taken with any Western Sydney University bachelor degree.
The program will develop mindset, risk tolerance, creativity, passion, big thinking, team formation and leadership capabilities – the key distinct characteristics of high impact entrepreneurs. In an entrepreneurial ecosystem, students will learn the knowledge and techniques for opportunity discovery, impact analysis, customer analysis, strategic teambuilding and leadership, the psychology and ethics of the start-up, funding modelling and financial analysis, growth and exit strategies.
Expressions of interest in the course will be taken during the UAC application process. Eligible students who express an interest and receive an offer to another Western Sydney University course will be invited to join the Bachelor of Entrepreneurship.
Master of Research
This is an elite research degree available to meritorious students in most undergraduate degrees. As an internationally recognised qualification it will allow students to access global employment opportunities and research education.
