^ The annual tuition fees listed are indicative fees for study in Year 1, in the 2025 calendar year only. Fees are based on a full-time student enrolment load of 48 credit points per year, or 1.0 Equivalent Full-Time Student Load (1.0 EFTSL). If your study load for the year is more or less than 1.0 EFTSL, your tuition fee will differ. Importantly, tuition fees are subject to annual review by the University, and will increase each calendar year of your study, effective at the start of each calendar year. For students enrolling in a combined degree, in most cases a single course tuition fee applies for the duration of your study in the combined degree, regardless of the units of study that are selected in each of the two qualifications (eg a B Arts and B Laws). About

The Bachelor of Engineering Honours (Environmental Engineering) is an undergraduate coursework degree that will give you the skills to develop technologies to create a healthier and more sustainable future. This course is accredited by Engineers Australia and other major professional engineering institutions.

You will complete degree foundational core units in mathematics and computing, along with a suite of multidisciplinary project units. You will also complete stream core and specialist elective units in environmental engineering, and can choose to complete an optional specialisation.

Additionally, you will complete elective units as needed to make up the requirements of the course from either the Engineering disciplinary pool or the shared pool. In your final year, you will complete an honours thesis in environmental engineering.

Throughout your degree, you will undertake professional engagement activities as part of the Professional Engagement Program, including engineering work experience in the final year.

Areas of study

Specialisations are optional - you may choose an Environmental Engineering specialisation in Chemical Engineering for the Environment, Energy and the Environment, or Geotechnical Engineering. You may also broaden your studies by choosing a specialisation in Engineering Data Science, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Humanitarian Engineering, or Computer Systems.

Career opportunities

Students can pursue a career as a Renewable Energy Engineer, focusing on clean energy production, a Water Resources Engineer, designing systems to manage and protect water resources, a Waste Management Specialist, working to minimise the environmental impact of waste, an Environmental Consultant, assessing environmental impact and conducting site assessments, a Climate Change Analyst, helping governments and organisations address climate change, a Sustainability Consultant, assessing energy use and sustainability practices, and as an Environmental Regulator, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Practical experience

All Bachelor of Engineering Honours students in both single and combined degrees are required to undertake a minimum level of professional engagement activities (such as industry placements).

Fees and charges

Prerequisites

Mathematics Advanced (Band 4) or Mathematics Extension 1 (Band E3) or Mathematics Extension 2 (Band E3).

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Assumed knowledge: Mathematics Extension 1, Chemistry.
