Take the first steps on your path to playing a vital role in your community and a successful career as a pharmacist with La Trobe's accredited Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours).

Build your understanding of how medicines treat diseases and impact people's lives, and the importance of patient-centred and individualised care. Access our on-campus training pharmacy and get work-ready by participating in a range of community and hospital placements. Understand how systems of the body work, and how diseases and medicines affect these systems. Explore the evolving use of digital technologies in healthcare and the technological, clinical, social, legal and ethical impacts of digital health. Examine issues in public health, including rural and remote Australia and across Indigenous communities.

Graduate eligible to complete a one-year internship and take the Pharmacy Board of Australia exams to qualify as a professional pharmacist.

Career opportunities

After graduation, you’ll be eligible to apply to  complete a one-year supervised internship and take the Australian Pharmacy Board exams to qualify as a professional pharmacist. You can then work in a range of settings, including hospitals, community pharmacies, pharmacy professional organisations, government agencies, pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies or research facilities. Possible roles include: community or hospital pharmacist, pharmaceutical scientist, pharmaceutical regulator, Australian defence forces pharmacist, Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia pharmacist.

Practical experience

During this course, you will participate in one or more supervised Work Based Learning (WBL) placements designed to allow you to practice newly acquired skills, behaviours and knowledge while integrating theory with practice. The placements will immerse you in professional work culture, enabling you to develop and further enhance your skills.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Subject adjustments: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 courses will have their selection rank increased by one point per study:

  • Band 3 in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics Standard 1, Mathematics Standard 2, Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 2, Physics.
  • Bnd 2 in any language other than English

Selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of five points.

Applicants with higher education study and
Applicants with work and life experience

This course uses the entire Academic Record as part of its selection considerations.

Applicants with vocational education and training (VET) study

Applicants who have not successfully completed an Australian Year 12 or equivalent are ineligible to apply for this course. This course uses the ATAR as part of its selection considerations.
