Civil (Structures) engineers are proficient in the advanced design and modelling techniques needed to erect and maintain structures and understand the traditional and advanced materials available for their construction. Students in this course complete the core civil engineering program and the Structures sub-major. This sub-major provides an advanced understanding of the behaviour of structures under stresses, and you will use leading-edge computer software to model, analyse and design structures.

You can work in any of the areas suggested for the Civil major, plus find opportunities with major commercial developers, government agencies and their contractors, engineering consultancies, particularly those which specialise in designing and building large structures or assessing existing structures.
Graduates have the opportunity of working around the world as well as throughout Australia.
The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) majoring in Civil Engineering is fully accredited by Engineers Australia at the level of Professional Engineer and is recognised internationally by signatories to the Washington Accord.
All students are required to complete a minimum of 12 weeks work experience. Students in the Diploma in Professional Engineering Practice undertake 2 x 6-month Work Integrated Learning internships in year 2 and year 4 which integrates theory with practice.

Portfolio: Current school leavers can support their application by submitting the Year 12 Engineering and IT Portfolio via UAC.
Statement of service: Applicants are advised to complete the employment question on their UAC application and provide statements of service to UAC, as an adjustment of up to five points to their selection rank may be awarded on the basis of relevant employment experience. Applicants will have had to have met the UTS minimum matriculation requirements in order for their employment experience to be assessed, and their documented employment experience must be at least one full-time year or greater.
