Early Years education enriches learning in children from birth to five years by giving children the opportunity to maximise their potential and develop a foundation for lifelong learning. It focuses on the significance of early education to foster children’s health, development and wellbeing.
The Bachelor of Education – The Early Years (Accelerated) has been specifically designed to support the upskilling of diploma qualified early childhood educators to become Early Childhood teachers in just two years. This exciting online program was developed by UOW in partnership with the Early Learning and Care Council of Australia (ELACCA) and the NSW Department of Education.
The course design builds upon the sector’s rich experience of diploma qualified educators through integrated work-based placement and innovative course delivery. The program is evidence-informed, contextually relevant, and sustainable, which supports equity of access for all students.
On completion, you will have the skills and knowledge to maximise early intervention practices that support lifelong success, while understanding the impact of physical and social learning environments on educational outcomes.
Delivered fully online across three academic sessions per year, this pathway supports educators by offering a flexible professional experience degree that aims to enhance educator engagement, allows educators to continue earning an income while studying, and minimises disruptions for their employers. In addition to the unique course design and professional experience, students will be paired with a mentor from the sector to ensure they receive ongoing support throughout the degree.
You will receive credit for 20 days professional experience in acknowledgement of your teaching experience. The remaining 60 days will be taken in three placements of 20 days each, working with children of different ages. Educators currently employed through an ELACCA-affiliated service will complete their placements at another ELACCA early childhood service within their local region. For educators not currently employed in the field, or who currently work at a non-ELACCA early childhood service, UOW’s Professional Experience unit will assist in facilitating placements.
