The Bachelor of Education is a gateway degree to work as a registered teacher. First year is a foundational year with a solid grounding in literacy, numeracy and subject content, as well as issues in contemporary education. Students choose a specialisation depending on which age groups they wish to teach.
Graduates will either be qualified as a primary or secondary teacher, a secondary technology teacher, a combined primary/secondary teacher or as a primary/early childhood teacher depending on the specialisation chosen. In the Secondary teaching area, students choose teaching subjects from a wide range.
Some online units require attendance at on-campus workshops. This course is also available online.
Teacher education courses: All students enrolled in an initial teacher education program must complete and pass the benchmarking Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education during the course of their studies.
Early childhood/primary, primary, primary/secondary, secondary, or technology secondary. Curriculum, pedagogy, discipline areas, teaching strategies.
Early childhood, Primary or Secondary school teacher. Combined specialisations in early childhood/primary and primary/secondary allow for teaching across a wider range of age groups.
Accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority and approved by the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) for Primary and Secondary initial teacher education in accordance with the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).
The Bachelor of Education Early Childhood/Primary pathway is accredited by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) for Early Childhood.
Substantial program of in-school professional teaching experience.
