This degree is designed for vineyard managers and viticulturists and those aspiring to these careers – offering extensive studies across the discipline. You can choose to study this course part-time over six years or fast-track your degree – either online or via blended learning (a combination of on-campus and online study) – and complete within four years.

On-campus Intensive schools and workplace learning subjects.
Online students will need to attend on campus intensive schools for certain subjects. Intensive schools offer face-to-face lectures, tutorials and practicals to give a deeper understanding of the subject content and develop skills in safety and laboratory/field techniques.
AHT274 Industry Practice - Students are required to undertake an approved placement with an agribusiness (on or off-farm), service or retail organisation relevant to their course, over a period equivalent to 20 working days (approx 140 hours). Students will investigate and reflect on the context and processes of management in the work environment they observe and experience.
PSC221 Fundamentals of Plant Protection – Students spend a week, 5 days (approx. 37 hours), on a plant-based production system (e.g. a cropping or horticultural enterprise) gathering information and samples relating to pests affecting the production system and how they are managed.
VIT407 Integrated Vineyard Management – 1 day (pprox. 7hrs) Students will gather knowledge about the soil, variety, rootstock, clone, climate, topography, and management inputs as relevant to a chosen vineyard block.
WSC202 Wine Production 1 – Students must be able to access winery or basic winemaking and analysis equipment for the production of a wine. Up to 21 days (approx 150 hours). Access is required over a 3-6 month period, and some steps may take several hours per day at some stages of the winemaking process.
The Australian Government subsidises the tuition fee for this course. The remaining balance is paid by the student. Visit the Charles Sturt University website for current fee information.
NOTE: Successful applicants who do not have an appropriate high school background in chemistry or mathematics are strongly recommended to undertake Introductory Chemistry (SSS010) and Maths Skills 2 - Intermediate A & B (SSS072 & SSS073) in the University's Study Link program prior to commencing study in the course.
This course contains workplace learning components requiring access to a cropping or horticultural enterprise to gather information and pest samples (PSC221), access to winery or basic winemaking and analysis equipment for the production of a wine (WSC202), access to a vineyard, preferably commercial, to develop a vineyard management portfolio (VIT407) and a four-week placement in a commercial vineyard, winery or wine business (AHT274).
Assumed knowledge: English, Chemistry, Mathematics.
Recommended studies: Successful applicants who do not have an appropriate high school background in chemistry or mathematics are strongly recommended to undertake Introduction to Chemistry (SSS010) and Maths Skills 2 - Intermediate A & B (SSS072 & SSS073) in the University's Study Link program prior to commencing study in the course.
