About

Combining law with computer science allows you to understand and shape how the law functions within a technical context. This double degree combines the practical, problem- solving skills of computer science and programming with the high-level analytical, research and communication skills of law. You will acquire specialist knowledge and skills across the continually changing landscape of Information Communication & Technology (ICT).

Discover the moral and legal boundaries of artificial intelligence and how the law keeps up with the fast-paced rollout of new technologies and emerging industries. On completion of the Bachelor of Computer Science- Bachelor of Laws, you will prepared for traditional careers in the legal profession as well as a wide range of careers in government, business and community organisations.

You will benefit from the expertise of our teaching staff who are some of the best in their fields. After an intensive first year of Law subjects, you will study a common core of subjects across computer science as well as prescribed areas of law to enable future professional admission.

Throughout this degree, you will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience and make professional connections. In your final year, you will develop your own application as part of an annual student team project in collaboration with industry partners. In addition, you will build practical skills and experience as part of your legal training through our required legal internship program and embedded legal skills program.

Bachelor of Laws: Solicitor, barrister, policy officer in government departments, in- house lawyer in private companies and community legal centres, accounting, banking and finance, business and management, education, government administration, media and communications. Bachelor of Computer Science: AI engineer, analyst, animator, computer engineer, cyber security analyst, data mining & analysis, data scientist, database administrator, electronics engineer, games or app developer, network architect, programmer, security engineer, software engineer, web developer for multimedia and service-oriented application for industries such as marketing, education, research, and media providers.  

Professional recognition

Bachelor of Laws: Eligible for admission as a lawyer in Australia, subject to completing state-approved Practical Legal Training (PLT). Further details for NSW students can be found at the Legal Profession Admission Board website. Bachelor of Computer Science: Accredited by the Australian Computer Society.

Practical experience

Bachelor of Laws: Legal internship provides 20 working days of professional experience. Bachelor of Computer Science: Optional internships, industry projects and other career-ready learning opportunities.

Honours

Bachelor of Laws: Awarded on the basis of excellent performance throughout the course, as well as in a Legal Research Methodology subject and a Legal Research Thesis. Bachelor of Laws (Honours by Research) is available as an additional year of study to meritorious students. Bachelor of Computer Science: Available as an additional year of study to meritorious students.
