About

This unique and innovative 5-year program prepares you to practise as an exercise scientist, exercise physiologist and a physiotherapist. You will learn how the body works and functions in healthy populations, in chronic disease states and when injured, as well as how to assess, diagnose, treat, manage and prevent a wide range of health conditions across the lifespan.

This degree has a strong focus on interprofessional education, communication and teamwork, as well as evidence-based and reflective practice. Throughout the program, commencing in first year, you will experience more than 1800 hours of placements in a wide spectrum of health and clinical settings, including hospitals, community practices, workplace rehabilitation and aged care centres.

This degree has an embedded professional practice stream, where you’ll study with students from our dietetics, exercise physiology and pharmacy programs. You’ll gain an understanding of how different teams work together to improve patient outcomes, such as how and when to refer a client to another health professional.

Areas of study

Anatomy, physiology, nutrition, biomechanics, motor control, exercise prescription, exercise physiology, cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, neurological physiotherapy, musculoskeletal physiotherapy, acute physiotherapy care, neurological rehabilitation, plus research skills, public health, and professional practice.

Career opportunities

Physiotherapists and exercise physiologists are in high demand in Australia and overseas and find employment in a wide range of clinical and community settings. They work across the age spectrum in public and private hospitals, medical centres, private practices, aged care facilities, out-patient rehabilitation centres, schools and educational facilities, research institutes, independent living/respite centres, as well as with elite and local sporting clubs. With credentials in physiotherapy, exercise science and exercise physiology, you will be highly attractive to employers, in clinical and non-clinical sectors.

Professional recognition

This program is accredited for 2 years with conditions by the Australian Physiotherapy Council (APC) and has qualifying accreditation from Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) at the level of Exercise Science and Exercise Physiology.
