About
This degree is designed for students who want to pursue a career in secondary-school teaching. You will develop excellent classroom competency skills with up to 80 days in supervised teaching in at least two secondary-school contexts. The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) is only offered as a double degree, which means our graduates also benefit from further career opportunities in complementary professions.
NSW teacher education students are required to pass the Literacy and Numeracy Test prior to starting their professional experience placements.

Areas of study
For Bachelor of Arts: Education and teaching studies plus two teaching areas from drama, English (double or single method), English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D), geography, history (ancient history, modern history) (double or single method), Indigenous studies, languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Spanish), legal studies, music studies, society and culture. For Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Economics: Education plus business studies, economics. For Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Design: Education plus music, graphics and multimedia technology, visual arts. For Bachelor of Science: Education and teaching studies plus one of biological sciences, science chemistry, earth and environmental science, investigating science, mathematics, physics.
Career opportunities
Teachers in government or non-government schools, policy and curriculum development, leadership or supervisory roles within schools.
Professional recognition
Bachelor of Education (Secondary), when undertaken concurrently with another degree in an approved teaching specialisation, is accredited by the NSW Education Standards Authority as a preservice secondary teaching qualification and recognised for employment purposes nationally and internationally. Admission criteria
Applicants with recent secondary education
Assumed knowledge: Any 2 units of English (Band 5). For Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Economics: Mathematics Advanced. For Bachelor of Science: Mathematics Advanced or Mathematics Extension 1 (depending on chosen area of study) plus one or more of Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Physics. Music: Music 2, or AMEB (7th Grade Practical and 6th Grade Theory or Musicianship) or equivalent study.
Recommended studies: English Advanced. For Bachelor of Fine Arts: Animation and moving image: Visual Arts, Design and Technology. Music: Music 2, or AMEB (7th Grade Practical and 6th Grade Theory or Musicianship) or equivalent study. Art Theory or Visual Arts: Visual Arts. For Bachelor of Design: Design and Technology, Industrial Technology, Information Processes and Technology, Textiles and Design.
