Immerse yourself in creative practice and develop your independent voice with the Bachelor of Fine Arts. This degree includes distinct and focused specialisations from which you can choose: Animation and Moving Image, Art Theory, Music (including creative practice, pedagogy, sonic arts), and Visual Arts. You’ll learn from experts who will build your technical skills and knowledge in practical and theoretical classes. Your career will be developed though the strong industry links that are embedded in all our specialisations.
Media is the glue of a modern society and shapes every aspect of life today. The Bachelor of Media at UNSW unlocks the specialist expertise, self-knowledge, creative thinking and creative problem-solving skills to make an impact as a media professional, or simply set you up as a more aware professional to succeed in your second and third job, not just your first. You’ll have the opportunity to tailor a degree to your specific interests. Specialise in public relations & advertising, communications and journalism, screen production, cinema studies, or media studies. Here, you’ll develop practical job skills as well as conceptual, strategic, creative and critical capabilities to help you make your impact in the exciting and fast-changing media industries.

Areas of study
Bachelor of Fine Arts: Animation and moving image, art theory, music (including creative practice, pedagogy, sonic arts ), and visual arts. Bachelor of Media: Cinema studies, communications and journalism, media studies, public relations and advertising, screen production.

Animation and moving image: Animator, 3D artist, digital publishing, digital communications specialist, art director, advertising director, film producer, television producer, visual effects designer. Art theory: Arts and cultural management, policy making and administration, art and design criticism, communications and journalism. Communications and engagement: Community engagement advisor, public relations consultant, social media manager, video presenter. Media production and design: Cinematographer, game designer, sound producer, television producer. Music: Performance, arranging and composing, academia, classroom music teaching, audio engineering. Visual arts: Art direction, advertising, and communications, writer, exhibition curator, entertainer, publisher, educator, theatre production, urban planner.

Admission criteria
Applicants with recent secondary education
Recommended studies: For Fine arts, Animation and moving image: Visual Arts, Design and Technology. For Music: Music 2, or AMEB (7th Grade Practical and 6th Grade Theory or Musicianship) or equivalent study. For Art theory or Visual arts: Visual Arts. For Media: English (Advanced).

Portfolio (optional): Demonstrate your passions and skills alongside your ATAR. Depending on your preferred degree, you'll complete either a critical reflection or a portfolio, with successful applicants receiving an early conditional offer with an adjusted ATAR entry requirement for their preferred degree.
