In our Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery, you'll learn the fundamentals of nursing and midwifery, including human biosciences and public health. You'll practise in emergency and time-critical settings, and hone your skills in a fully immersive hospital experience at the School of Nursing and Midwifery's Simulation Lab.

You'll graduate with over 1,600 hours of placements in a clinical setting, giving you first-hand experience of what it's like to work as a midwife and nurse.

Practical experience

Essential requirements for admission

First aid/CPR certificate: First aid and/or CPR certification may be required to meet the professional requirements of the degree. Further information will be provided post enrolment.

Immunisation: Prior to commencing a placement, students are required to meet all of the requirements of the degree in relation to immunisation and testing for blood-borne viruses. Students must visit a medical practitioner who will complete and sign the Immunisation and Health Record form. Further information will be provided post enrolment.

National Police Record Check: Successful applicants will be required to hold a valid National Police Record Check for professional placements as part of this course.

Working with Children Check: Successful applicants will be required to hold a valid Working with Children Check prior to undertaking professional placements as part of this course.

English language proficiency for Nursing and Midwifery: All applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by submitting a declaration that English is their primary language or evidence that they have achieved the minimum English language test results as specified in the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's (NMBA) English language skills registration standard.

English language test selection: Applicants who have undertaken studies in a language other than English must demonstrate that they have achieved the required minimum scores in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic) or equivalent. This requirement is in addition to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia's requirements above. Refer to La Trobe University’s language requirements for further information.

Admission criteria

Applicants with recent secondary education

Subject adjustments: Applicants who successfully complete one of the following HSC or equivalent Year 12 courses will have their selection rank increased by 1 point per study: Band 2 in Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Mathematics Standard 2, Mathematics Advanced, Mathematics Extension 2, Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE), Physics or any language other than English.

Selection ranks can be increased by a maximum of 5 points.
