Gain the skills to tackle many environmental issues, including land degradation, loss of biodiversity, climate change and water management. Plus, major in an area that captures your imagination: Applied Earth Science; Aquatic Ecosystems; Climate and Sustainability; Ecology and Conservation; or Parks, Recreation and Heritage.  

This degree provides you with a broad and coherent set of knowledge and skills required to manage the interaction between people and the environment to ensure our ecological, social, and economic sustainability.  
You will be encouraged to tailor both your learning and professional practice to suit your individual interest and career aspirations in environment management and sustainability. Areas of interest include ecology and conservation, protected area management, climate change and sustainability, and earth sciences. 

Graduates of this degree are able to make well-developed judgements and take responsibility for solutions to unpredictable and sometimes complex environmental problems. They also possess the lifelong learning skills needed to remain innovative and highly skilled professionals in the future. 

You have the flexibility to undertake your study with us either on campus or online. 

Areas of study

Environmental science, including conservation biology, earth science, ecology, environmental issues, human interactions with the environment, Indigenous and cultural heritage, international issues, sustainable development, vegetation ecology, water resource management, wildlife management and environmental impact assessment.

Career opportunities

When you graduate, you'll be ready to make your mark in a wide range of environmental science careers, including biodiversity officer, catchment manager, conservation manager, environmental planner, sustainability consultant, spatial scientist, aquatic scientist, park ranger, plant ecologist, wildlife ecologist.

Practical experience

Field trips and study tours to a range of different Australian ecosystems and environments including desert, national parks, high country and coastal zones. Build professional networks and industry experience through work integrated learning embedded at each level of the degree.

Students also have opportunities to complete supported international study tours that develop professional skills and global perspectives about conservation and sustainability.
